A longtime philanthropist and supporter of education, the arts, religious institutions, historic preservation and medical research, Mr. Brotherton established the Fred J. Brotherton Charitable Foundation as a Florida trust in 1997.

In 2024, the Fred J. Brotherton Charitable Foundation was amicably dissolved and two new charitable trusts were created in instead. William P. Brotherton, M.D. continues to serve as the sole Trustee of the FJ Brotherton Charitable Trust.
